Public Law and the Compact

The BME specific Public Law and Compact training workshop series was officially launched on 25 May 2010 in Leicester at the Public Law and Compact: Strengthen and Empower your Relationships with Public Bodies national launch event. The audience included a mix of public bodies and a wide range of BME voluntary sector organisations from across England.

The event attracted a wide ranging audience from a mix of public bodies to BME infrastructure organisations, mainstream infrastructure organisations at national and regional levels as well as frontline delivery organisations.

The day saw a keynote speech from Sir Bert Massie, Commissioner for the Compact, as well as contributions from Pragna Patel of Southall Black Sisters, David Ayinne of the Ethnic Minority Partnership Agency, both of whom have successfully challenged the decisions of local authorities in their respective localities.

The overall aim of the event was to launch a series of BME specific Public Law and Compact training workshops, to be delivered around the country, and resources. Attendees were given a preview of what the one day training workshops would look like through a taster seminar delivered by Ravi Chauhan, BME Compact Officer at V4CE and Terry Perkins, Public Law Training Officer at NAVCA. If you would like to receive more information about the BME specific Public Law and Compact training series please visit the Compact and Public Law training events webpage.

NEW! Is the BME third sector being heard?

The fabulous new video resources are finally here! On 16 March 2010, Strengthening Voices collaborated with KnowHow Non Profit to host 'Be Seen, Be Heard, Be Understood' which was a pilot event on communications and public profile. Our delegates shared with us some of their thoughts on the big issues for the BME third sector and what prevented organisations from working in synergy. Watch it now!

If you have any comments or would like to respond to anything our delegates have said, please do not hesitate to email Nandini Das.
