The event, hosted by Voice4Change England (V4CE) and the social enterprise service provider Olmec, was an engaging session enabling those with social enterprises the opportunity to gain more understanding and knowledge of the support available to them.

Kunle Olulode, CEO of V4CE, explained that now is the time to show central government how social enterprises can reach BME communities. He continued: "Many social enterprises are emerging to turn negative situations into positives for communities but we now need to demonstrate and show evidence of added value, particularly when applying for grants."

Key speakers on the day included Mr Olulode and Sam Thomas, project engagement manager of The RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce). Mr Thomas spoke of a number of networks and projects that The RSA were involved in to support social enterprises.

He revealed that The RSA's ChangeMakers project provides practical advice on how to share skills and network with people interested in making positive changes in their communities. Mr Thomas also highlighted a number of funding opportunities available to social enterprises such as The Big Lottery and the NCVO's Funding Central.

Mr Thomas concluded: "The myth of the lonely entrepreneur is not true what we see now is that bringing people together is key."

Some of the promising social enterprises who attended the networking event included Eat Club, Charity MOT and The Write Network.
