Winning the Race Coalition

In February 2009 Voice4Change England joined the national Winning the Race Coalition with think tank Race on the Agenda. The coalition was formed to highlight some areas of concern in relation to the Single Equality Bill. Our recommendations aim to inform the final stages of the Bill including its wording. The Coalition’s focus is primarily on race equality and the discrimination faced by Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) groups.

The Compact

Voice4Change England has been involved in shaping the Compact debate and encouraging the retention of the BME Code since the review of the Codes of Good Practice last year. We were nominated to sit on the Compact Refresh Group as the Equalities lead. Together with the Compact Voice and the Commission for the Compact we worked hard to improve the section on Equalities for the Refreshed Compact Consultation paper.

Valuing the BME Third Sector

In January 2009 we launched our Valuing the BME Third Sector campaign for recognition of the vital contribution being made by the BME Third Sector in in bonding communities and promoting equality. Alun Michael MP put down Early Day Motion 620 in support for the campaign. If you are able to lobby your local Member of Parliament to sign the EDM or visit a frontline service then please contact us.

Sustaining Grants

Voice4Change England is supporting NAVCA in its work on Sustaining Grants. We wish to engage BME voluntary and community organisations to come forward with case studies on the importance of grant funding which has been supporting their activities for BME communities. Voice4Change England Partners will be promoting the Sustaining Grants project among their members across England.
